Transit-Oriented Development

Transit-Oriented Development is a development solution that was composed by Peter Calthorpe to mitigate the adverse effects of Urban Sprawl.  TODs, in a nutshell, are compact developments that are anchored by a transit stop within 10-minute walk or .5 mile.  Its purpose is to reduce automobile dependency and to provide dependable -multiple modes of transit for people who may not be able to afford private transportation for their family.  This type of development also implements connectivity for small periphery cities or communities to various types of goods and services.  Furthermore, TOD principles function to provide housing options that range from low-income to high-income housing
types.  Lastly,  TOD principles seek to reinvigorate dilapidated communities.  The following powerpoint presentation was created as a class requirement as an informative document to educate the class on Transit-Oriented Development.  After reading multiple sources, I believe TODs are a viable solution to reverse urban sprawl.  You be the judge.
