STARKVILLE MASTER PLAN
This is the Starkville Master Plan I designed for Professor Taze Fulford's Design III Studio - using Smart Growth principles. I would appreciate any feedback that you can give me. Thanks - Cory Lucius
CONCEPT STATEMENT:
THE PURPOSE OF THIS
DESIGN IS TO SEW THE TATERED FABRIC OF PLACE. STARKVILLE IS A CHARMING LITTLE COLLEGE TOWN THAT HAS LOST
ITS WAY AND IS FIGHTING ITS WAY BACK - BUT NOT WITHOUT RESISTANCE. STARKVILLE HAS THE POTENTIAL OF
BECOMING AN UNFORGETTABLE DESTINATION FOR ALL VISITORS. DOWNTOWN PROPER CONTAINS PROSPECTIVE
COMMERCIAL AREAS THAT ARE NOT BEING UTILIZED, AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO PROVIDE
ALTERNATIVE RESIDENTIAL DWELLINGS FOR MULTIPLE INCOME RANGES. THE SITE ON THE CORNER OF EAST LAMPKIN
STREET AND SOUTH JACKSON STREET IS ONE OF THOSE PLACES NOT BEING UTILIZED TO
ITS FULLEST CAPABILITIES. SO MANY
TIMES DYNAMIC LOCATIONS ARE OVERLOOKED – RESULTING IN A COMMERCIAL STRIP THAT
LOOKS LIKE MANY OTHERS IN MISSISSIPPI.
THIS DESIGN WILL EMBRACE AND ENHANCE THE ARCHITECTURAL QUALITIES OF
STARKVILLE AND IMPLEMENT STRATAGEM THAT REVOLVES AROUND PEOPLE AND NOT THE
AUTOMOBILE. I PLAN TO FOCUS ON HUMAN SCALE IN AN EFFORT TO PROVIDE CONNECTIVITY
TO AND FROM THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT., AND OFFER AN ATTRACTIVE DESTINATION FOR
POTENTIAL HOMEOWNERS SEEKING ALTERNATIVES TO THE EXISTING HOUSING STOCK.
